SCBC Students Win Third Prize in the 7th “CC CUP”


On November 30, the 7th “CC CUP” International Chinese Culture Translation Contest concluded successfully at Jilin University of Foreign Languages with its interpretation finals and awards ceremony. After two rounds of intense competition, SCBC students Lin Yili from 2022 English (Language and Culture) and Jiang Ai from the Excellence Class, 2022 English (Teacher Education) both demonstrated solid professional skills and outstanding on-site performance. They secured third place in the national interpretation group with impressive scores, ranking thirteenth and sixth overall respectively.




SCBC Holds 3 Exciting Academic Events


On the morning of December 6th, 2025, SCBC’s Institute of Area Studies was officially inaugurated. Concurrently, the 8th Sino-US Arctic Social Conference commenced, alongside the release of the first series in China, Arctic Countries' Policies and Actions on Climate Change, compiled over three years by the Center of Polar Issues Studies of SCBC. These three interconnected events underscored SCBC’s steadfast commitment to serving national strategies and deepening international academic collaboration. Over 200 attendees, including scholars from domestic and international universities, representatives from partner institutions, and faculty and students from SCBC, gathered to witness this momentous occasion of both academic significance and milestone importance.

SCBC President Wang Hua delivered the welcome address. He emphasized that area studies serve as vital bridges connecting China with the world and supporting national strategies. With the deepening of the Belt and Road Initiative and the steady development of the Guangdong-HongKong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the establishment of the Institute of Area Studies leveraging multidisciplinary strengths to integrate resources—aligns with national strategic needs while reflecting Guangdong's unique geographical advantages. The establishment of the institute, alongside the 8th Sino-US Arctic Social Conference, will provide robust support for building academic exchange platforms, promoting interdisciplinary integration, and cultivating compound talents with global perspectives.


During the guest address segment, speeches were delivered by Wu Leizhao, Director of Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration; Professor Xia Liping from Tongji University; and Professor Brandon M. Boylan from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. They highly commended SCBC's academic achievements in area studies and polar studies, noting that the institute's establishment is both timely and far-reaching. They affirmed it will provide crucial support for building high-level academic exchange platforms, cultivating multidisciplinary professionals, and deepening international cooperation consensus inthese fields.

The conference proceeded with the unveiling ceremony for the Institute of Area Studies. Vice President Wang Mingyu detailed the preparatory work for the institute and emphasized that SCBC would adhere to a three-pronged approach of “academic research, think tank development, and talent cultivation,” striving to build the institute into a distinctive, high-level scientific research platform.

Witnessed by attendees, President Wang Hua, Vice President Wang Mingyu, and distinguished guests Researcher Yang Jian and Researcher Yang Huigen jointly unveiled the plaque for the Institute. The ceremony also appointed nine renowned domestic experts—Chen Jie, Gu Yeli, HuWentao, Li Qing, Lü Yaodong, Ma Zaoming, Xia Liping, Yang Huigen, and Yang Jian—as academic advisors.

Concurrently, the Center of Polar Issue Studies launched its new book series, Arctic Countries' Policies and Actions on Climate Change. Professor Gu Yeli, former SCBC inspector and former director of the Center of Polar Issue Studies, provided a detailed introduction to the series' background and content. He Yun, Deputy Director of Sun Yat-sen University Press, delivered congratulatory remarks.


SCBC Wins 3 Awards at GDAHR Annual Conference


On December 6, the 2025 Annual Conference of the Guangdong Academy of Human Resources (GDAHR) and the Symposium on “Break Boundaries Forge Integration: Empowering the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with Digital Intelligence for AI Era Competitiveness” was held in Guangzhou. At this significant industry gathering, SCBC was honored the “2025 Innovation Practice Award”; Dai Weihuang, Deputy Director of SCBC Personnel Office, received the“2025 Management Innovation Award”; and Professor WangTian from the School of Management was honored with the “2025 Excellence in Teaching Award.”



SCBC Faculty and Students Win 11 Awards at the Multilingual Translation Competition


Recently, the results of the inaugural “Strong Nation Cup” Multilingual International Translation Competition were announced. Faculty and students from the French department of SCBC secured a total of eleven awards, setting a new record for the highest number of external competition awards won by our French program in a single event. Organized by Center for Asia and Pacific of China International Communications Group (CICG) (People'sChina Press and China Report Press), the competition was co-hosted by The Translators Association of Guangdong Province, the School of European Studies at Tianjin Foreign Studies University and the School of European Studies and School of Asia and African Studies at Xi'an International Studies University. The event highlighted the mission of foreign language professionals to bridge cultures in an open and diverse global context. Translation texts spanned eight languages including French, Arabic, German, Korean, Russian, Thai, Spanish and other languages, attracting enthusiastic participation from faculty and students across numerous universities nationwide.



SCBC Students Win Awards at the 4th “Yanxing Cup” English Competition


On December 7th, the finals of the 4th Guangdong Province “Yanxing Cup” English Application Competency Contest were successfully held at South China University of Technology. After two months of intense competition, three outstanding student contestants selected by SCBC's Department of College English (Instructors: Yu Hongjian, Tong Xingru) collectively won two Second Prizes and one Third Prize in the Comprehensive category, along with one Third Prize each in Writing and Reading.



SCBC Holds The 7th SCBC Education Forum


On December 11th,the 7th SCBC Education Forum was held in the International Academic Lecture Hall. Centered on the theme “Innovational Development of Education and Discipline Construction in the AI Era,” this forum adopted a hybrid model combining online participation with offline main venue discussions. It directly addressed the profound challenges in educational digital transformation, explored practical pathways for cultivating large-scale educational models and enhancing digitalliteracy among teachers and students, and presented a substantial academic tribute to mark SCBC's 30th anniversary. The forum gathered authoritative education experts and renowned educators from both within and outside the university.


Atthe opening ceremony,  President Wang Hua extended a warm welcome to all attendees in his address. He emphasized that this forum represents a significant academic initiative for SCBC to thoroughly implement the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and celebrate SCBC’s 30th anniversary. He systematically outlined our substantial achievements in advancing the deep integration of AI and education, urging attendees to leverage the forum platform for in-depth exchanges. Together, they should explore new educational pathways in the intelligent era and empower the modernization of education through technology.


Vice President Wang Mingyu delivered a presentation titled “Disciplinary Construction and Interdisciplinary Innovation in Foreign Language Education.” He systematically addressed the theoretical development, innovative practices, talent cultivation, and challenges within this field. He argued that foreign language education is undergoing a paradigm shift—transitioning from dependency to independence, from being a tool to possessing intrinsic value, and from a local to a global perspective.

Subsequent speakers included Professor Jiao Jianli, doctoral supervisor at the School of Information Technology in Education of South China Normal University; Ms. Lin Meifang, Director of the Primary Education Division at the Foshan Municipal Education Bureau Teaching and Research Office; Professor He Zhuang from the Theory Department of the Shenzhen Institute of Education Sciences; and Dr. Chen Lan, President of Foshan Haibei Primary School. Representatives from the SCBC School of Education showcased teaching, research, and practical innovation achievements during the forum. Dean Feng Zengjun delivered the concluding remarks.


SCBC Launches the “High-Quality Teaching Development Excellence List Initiative”


On the afternoon of December 11, SCBC held the launch ceremony for the “High-Quality Teaching Development Excellence List Initiative” in the International Conference Hall. President Wang Hua and Vice President Guo Guihang attended the event, which was chaired by Vice President Zeng Yongqiang.

Atthe ceremony, Vice President Zeng Yongqiang delivered the opening remarks. He emphasized that launching the Excellence List Initiative aligns with the trend toward high-quality development in higher education and represents a key measure to advance the university's intrinsic growth. He elaborated on the initiative's background, philosophy, and approach.

President Wang Hua then summarized the event, outlining the strategic significance of implementing the Excellence List Initiative from three dimensions: the national education landscape, evolving trends in talent cultivation, and SCBC's development needs. He stressed that higher education has now fully transitioned from “scale expansion” to “quality enhancement,” and private universities must prioritize quality as their foundation and excellence as their competitive edge. “Pursuing excellence must become the sole compass for SCBC's future development,” he declared. He called on all faculty to actively engage in teaching reform with a sense of ownership, jointly building a high-quality development system with distinctive SCBC characteristics.



SCBC Holds Low-Altitude Economy Symposium


On December 14th, the academic symposium “Differences and Collaboration in Low-Altitude Economy Management from an International Perspective” was held in the International Conference Hall. The event attracted nearly 100 participants, including experts, scholars, entrepreneurs, and outstanding student representatives from across the country, as well as representatives from government agencies, universities, and enterprises in the low-altitude economy sector. Professor Wang Guanyi, Vice President of SCBC; He Tonglin, Deputy Inspector of the Guangzhou Airport Economic Zone Management Committee; Lei Xiangqun, Deputy Researcher of the General Office of the Guangzhou Municipal Standing Committee of the People's Congress; and Cai Yu, Deputy Researcher of the Working Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal Standing Committee of the People's Congress, attended the symposium.


Professor Wang Guanyi delivered the opening welcome address. He noted that since its establishment, SCBC has consistently focused on cultivating internationally oriented applied talents, while ensuring its research serves the nation's major strategic needs and Guangdong's socioeconomic development. Currently, the low-altitude economy has evolved from a technological concept into practical application. This “fourth growth curve” is reshaping regional competitive landscapes and fostering new ecosystems for industrial development. Centered on the theme “Differences and Synergies in Low-Altitude Economy Management from an International Perspective,” this conference serves as a vital bridge between academia and industry. It aims to contribute insights for resolving challenges and bottlenecks in low-altitude economy management while offering recommendations to advance the coordinated development of low-altitude industries.

At the conference, Professor Yang Hangjun from the University of International Business and Economics and Professor Jian Zhaoquan from South China University of Technology co-hosted the keynote speech session. Eight experts from China and abroad delivered presentations covering topics such as regulatory models, legal frameworks, technical standards, and industrial synergy pathways across different countries.

At the Government-Industry-Academia-Research Integration session, researcher Kuang Mo from the Research Center for Collaborative Innovation in Airport Economy chaired the meeting. Ten experts and scholars shared in-depth insights on innovative development paths for industry-education integration in the low-altitude economy. Topics included the convergence of low-altitude economy and smart cities, industrial development experiences in Europe and the United States, local regulatory frameworks and talent cultivation, overcoming talent bottlenecks through industry-education integration, and analysis of industrial development trends.

At the Academic Papers session, nine scholars presented research findings spanning multiple directions including low-altitude traffic management, urban air mobility systems, regional development pathways, and industrial chain analysis.





SCBC Holds Forum to Discuss Foreign Language Education in the AI Era


On December 14th, 2025, the Annual Meeting of the Guangdong Provincial Undergraduate Foreign Language Teaching Guidance Committee and the Guangdong Provincial Forum for Deans/Department Heads of Foreign Language Colleges/Departments was held at the International Academic Lecture Hall of SCBC. Centered on the theme “Breaking Through Constraints, Pioneering Innovation: Cultivating Foreign Language Talent in the AI Era,” the forum brought together over 100 foreign language education experts from more than 30 universities across the province. Participants focused on transformation pathways and innovative practices in foreign language education during the AI era. Through keynote speeches, parallel forums, and multi-dimensional discussions, they built consensus on establishing a new foreign language education ecosystem characterized by “human-machine collaboration and integration of arts and sciences.”


At the opening ceremony, President Wang Hua delivered a welcome address. He noted that foreign language education stands at a pivotal juncture of “breaking through” and “establishing new paradigms” amid fundamental transformations driven by technologies like generative AI. He highlighted that SCBC is actively integrating AI throughout the teaching process, committed to building a new liberal arts education ecosystem characterized by “human-machine collaboration and integration of arts and sciences,” thereby advancing a paradigm shift from knowledge transmission to competency and literacy cultivation. Wang Hua emphasized that future foreign language talents should become “ambassadors of civilization in the digital age,” possessing linguistic proficiency, AI mastery, and cross-cultural communication skills.

Chen Linhang, Chair of the Guangdong Provincial Undergraduate Foreign Language Education Committee and Vice President of SCBC, delivered an address. From a strategic perspective on disciplinary development, he stressed that foreign language education must proactively embrace challenges. Through deep interdisciplinary integration and innovationin systematic cultivation mechanisms, it should prudently address profound issues such as ethical regulation in technology application, disciplinary boundaries, and cultural diversity. This approach will guide the evolution of foreign language disciplines toward new paradigms of intelligence, convergence, and globalization.

Zhu Yizhi, Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press covering South China and Southwest China, delivered remarks. He briefly elucidated the forum's theme and reviewed the press's recent achievements in establishing foreign language education platforms and supporting talent cultivation. Concluding his address, he extended best wishes for the forum's success and expressed anticipation for fruitful intellectual exchanges among deans and scholars.

The keynote session, chaired by several distinguished deans, featured experts from institutions including Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, South China University of Technology, SCBC, and the Guangdong Education Development Center of Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. These scholars shared cutting-edge insights and practical case studies on foreign language education in the AI era. The conference featured three parallel sessions focusing on three dimensions for in-depth exchange: teacher development, training models, and curriculum reform. Discussions explored pathways for teacher transformation and team-building strategies in the AI era; shared experiences in industry-academia-research collaboration to innovate talent cultivation models; and examined the integration of ideological and political education into curricula to explore pathways for building high-quality course systems.



SCBC Has a Provincial Pilot Base for Science Popularization Volunteer Services


On December 12th, the Guangdong Science Popularization Study Tour Ecological Conference with the theme of Thousands of Sails Set Sail Science Popularization Voyages Far concluded successfully in Guangzhou. At the event, SCBC’s “Greater Bay Area Polar Research Science Popularization Base” was officially designated as a “Guangdong Provincial Science Popularization Volunteer Service Pilot Base.” This honor signifies provincial-level recognition of the base's work in polar science outreach and volunteer services. Jin Lili, a researcher from the Center of Polar Issues Studies of SCBC, attended the award ceremony on behalf of the base and accepted the honor.



SCBC Students Deliver Outstanding Performances at GDNSTSC


Recently, the award list for the 13th Guangdong Normal Students' Teaching Skills Competition (GDNSTSC)—hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and organized by South China Normal University—was announced. SCBC students delivered outstanding performances: Zou Bingqian from the Elementary Education (English) program won First Prize, while Chen Xing'er (Elementary Education, English), Chen Yixing, Chen Jiayi, and Peng Ruiqi (Preschool Education) each received Third Prize. Both the number and level of awards achieved represent the highest in SCBC’s history of participating in this competition.
