SCBC Students Win Prizes at FLTRP · ETIC Cup
In the recently announced winners of the 2025 Guangdong Provincial College Students' Foreign Language Proficiency Competition and the “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China”, outstanding contestants selected by SCBC College English Teaching Department and School of English Language and Culture competed alongside students from universities across Guangdong province. SCBC students achieved remarkable results, securing 1 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals. Li Qianyu from the 24th English Innovation Class (24th Portuguese) qualified for the national finals in the International Communication Comprehensive Competency category. Three instructors from College English Teaching department—Tang Cuicui, Yu Enze, and Li Kewei—were honored with the title of “Outstanding Instructor” for their professional guidance and dedicated efforts.

SCBC Students Win Two First Prizes in CUBEC
Recently, triumphant news arrived from the national finals of the 2025 CUBEC (China University Business Elite Challenge) in the Cultural Tourism Track! Two interdisciplinary teams from SCBC were formed through the strong collaboration of students from multiple disciplines, led by the Chinese Language and Literature program of the School of Culture and Communication, alongside students from Russian, Korean, English (Teacher Education), and Computer Science and Technology programs. After excelling to win first prize in the Guangdong Provincial Competition and advancing to the national finals, both team sultimately prevailed over fierce competition to jointly claim national first prizes. Ms. Zhang Yuxi and associate professor Wu Xinling were simultaneously honored with the Best Mentor Award. This double gold achievement not only marks SCBC's first-ever national award in this track but also represents a groundbreaking success in interdisciplinary integration.
SCBC Holds First Music Education Symposium
On the afternoon of November 27, the inaugural “SCBC Music Education High-Quality Development Symposium,” hosted by SCBC and organized by the School of Arts, was held in the International Conference Hall. Centered on the theme “AI-Empowered Application Innovation: Pathways for High-Quality Development in Music Education in the New Era,” the symposium brought together authoritative experts from nearly ten renowned domestic music institutions, including the China Conservatory of Music and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. They gathered with all faculty members and student representatives from the School of Arts for in-depth discussions and exchanges.

SCBC Vice President Lai Zhili delivered the welcoming address. He firstwelcomed the distinguished scholars and introduced SCBC's educational philosophy of “cultivating virtue and action, integratingEastern and Western learning,” emphasizing our commitment to aesthetic education and interdisciplinary innovation. He noted thatthe symposium's theme of “AI Empowerment” resonates with contemporary trends and precisely addresses cutting-edge issues in music education. He expressed hope that experts would freely share insights to collectively advance high-quality development in music education.
During the keynote address segment,experts and scholars took the floor one after another and aired the irrespective views. They are Professor Guo Biao, Dean of the School of Music Education at the China Conservatory of Music and doctoral supervisor; Soprano singer and Professor Wang Xiaoqing from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music; Professor Wu Hai, Vice President of Guangdong Vocational College of Arts; Professor Lei Guangyao, member of the National Arts Examination Guidance Committee under the Ministry of Education and Professor at Xinghai Conservatory of Music; Professor Long Qiang, Party Secretary of the School of Music at Yangtze Normal University; Jin Xugeng, Chairman of the Guangdong Musicians Association and First-Class Composer; Professor Zhang Xia, Dean of the School of Music Education at the Wuhan Conservatory of Music; Professor Yuan Dongyan, Expert of the Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center Committee and Professor at Xinghai Conservatory of Music; Professor Wang Haiyuan, Dean of the School of Music at Anhui Normal University; and Professor Zhang Dongdong, Dean of the School of Music at Zhaoqing University.
Finally, Professor Wang Mingyu, Vice President of SCBC, delivered the closing remarks. He highly commended the outcomes of this conference, highlighting its three distinct characteristics: the deep integration of disciplines and specialties, the organic unity of upholding fundamentals and innovation, and the effective translation of theory into practice. He particularly acknowledged Professor Guo Biao's speech for its “depth,” Professor Zhang Dongdong's sharing for its “substance,” and Professor Yuan Dongyan's exchange for its “warmth.” Subsequently, he earnestly requested continued attention and support for SCBCs College of Arts, established just one year prior. He emphasized that a pragmatic spirit forms the cornerstone of the college's development, while multi-party collaboration serves as the driving force for progress. He expressed anticipation for joining hands with industry peers to jointly create a bright future for arts education.

SCBC Launches One-Year Countdown to 30th Anniversary Celebration
On the morning of November 28, 2025, warm winter sunlight bathed the Torch Music Lawn on campus. SCBC leaders, former administrators, distinguished professors, heads of academic units, discipline leaders, faculty and student representatives, along with alumni gathered to witness the historic moment: the launch of the one-year countdown to the 30th anniversary celebration of SCBC. Chairman Ding Xiaojun and the entire university leadership unveiled the countdown sign bearing the theme “Thirty Years of Brilliance, New Chapter of SCBC” The ceremony was presided over by Vice President Wang Mingyu.

Wang Mingyu first reviewed the school's 29-year educational journey. He explained that its predecessor, Guangzhou South Girls' School, emerged amid the wave of reform and opening-up. After evolving through several stages, including Guangzhou South Industry and Commerce School, and Guangzhou South Industry and Commerce College, it was formally established as South China Business College of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (SCBC) in 2006. Over these 29 years, it has consistently upheld the educational philosophy of “All For Students’ Future,” adhering to its positioning as an applied and international university while cultivating successive cohorts of outstanding talents for society. He emphasized that this launch ceremony marks the official commencement of preparations for the 30th anniversary celebration.
In his address, SCBC President Wang Hua noted that the 30th anniversary celebration represents a significant milestone in the school's development journey. He reviewed SCBC's three developmental phases since its founding in 1996: from the pioneering efforts of its founding generation that built the institution “from nothing to something,” to the dedicated work of its academic backbone that propelled it “from something to excellence,” and finally to its recent focus on cutting-edge fields such as polar studies, language, and artificial intelligence, achieving “from excellence to strength.” Wang Hua stated that SCBC will center celebrations around the theme “Thirty Years of Brilliance, New Chapter of SCBC,” creating a high-level cultural feast, high-caliber academic events, and a high-quality gathering of distinguished guests. He extended a sincere invitation to leaders at all levels, alumni worldwide, and friends from all walks of life to reunite on campus next year and celebrate the anniversary together.
Subsequently, Vice President Lai Zhili solemnly read the “30th Anniversary Celebration Announcement (No. 1),” formally declaring the anniversary celebration scheduled for November 28, 2026, and extending a sincere invitation to all friends and alumni worldwide who have supported the university's development.
During the representative speeches, Professor Zhu Zijang, Dean of the School of Computer Science, vividly recounted SCBC's development journey based on his 23 years of teaching experience. He pledged that all faculty members would remain committed to their educational mission and celebrate the anniversary with outstanding achievements. Du Shuozhong, a representative of the Shenzhen Alumni Association and a graduate of the Class of 2006, fondly recalled his student days and promised that alumni would continue to support SCBC's development.Yang Lan, a 2023 student from the School of English Language and Culture, spoke on behalf of current students, pledging to uphold the motto of “Integrity and Action, Learning from East and West” and to strive to become ambassadors for Sino-Western cultural exchange.
With all attendees looking on, SCBC leaders jointly unveiled the countdown sign for the 30th anniversary celebration.

Different SCBC Alumni Associations Established on the Same Day
On November 29, 2025, the day after the one-year countdown to the 30th anniversary of SCBC, the founding assemblies of the alumni associations for the School of Eastern Languages and Cultures, School of Culture and Communication, and School of Management were held in the International Academic Lecture Hall of Building H. Hosted by the University Alumni Association, the event gathered SCBC leaders including Ding Xiaojun, Chairman of the Board and President of the Alumni Association, and President Wang Hua, alongside representatives from regional alumni associations and faculty and students. Together, they witnessed the unveiling of the three alumni associations. This inauguration ceremony not only continued the series of activities marking the one-year countdown to the anniversary celebration but also established a new platform for SCBC to connect alumni resources, deepen university-local cooperation, and advance high-quality development.
In his address, Professor Wang Hua fondly reflected on the educational journey and achievements of SCBC since its founding. Currently ranking among the top private universities, it is steadily advancing toward its goal of becoming an internationally distinctive applied foreign language university. Looking ahead, President Wang Hua emphasized that SCBC will continue deepening reforms in faculty development, disciplinary transformation, and program optimization. He specifically noted, “Future progress cannot be achieved without the wisdom and strength of our alumni.” SCBC will actively seek alumni input, build consensus among graduates, and jointly contribute insights to advance high-quality development. He underscored that “the achievements of our alumni are the success of our alma mater.” The university takes pride in its alumni and will forever serve as a steadfast pillar supporting their professional advancement and personal growth. Regardless of the challenges alumni encounter in their endeavors, SCBC pledges its full support. Finally, President Wang extended congratulations and highhopes for the establishment of the alumni associations within each college, wishing all alumni robust health, thriving careers, happy families, and every success in their endeavors.
Subsequently, Associate Professor Weng Lin, Secretary-General of the Alumni Association, presided over the review of the recommended committee members for the alumni associations of the School of Eastern Languages, School of Literature and Communication, and School of Management. Following the relevant procedures, the list was successfully approved, and the alumni associations of each school were formally established. Mr. Ding Xiaojun, Chairman of Board and President of the Alumni Association, presented flags to each school's alumni association.
Following the ceremony, the presidents of each alumni association delivered speeches. Subsequently, university leaders presented appointment certificates to committee members of each alumni association and accepted gifts from the respective alumni associations. Finally, Professor Chi Shengnyu, Dean of the School of Eastern Languages; Professor Peng Zhubin, Dean of the School of Literature and Communication; and Professor Wen Youyun, Executive Dean of the School of Management, delivered concluding remarks on behalf of their respective alumni associations.

SCBC Students Win Third Prize at the National Finals of 2025 BCSDTI
Triumphant news has arrived from the national finals of the inaugural International Study Tour Course Design and Implementation Innovation Competition. A team of four SCBC students won the bronze award in the First Design and Implementation of Innovative Competitions for International Research Travel Courses, part of the 2025 Belt and Road BRICS Competition of Skills Development and Technology Innovation (BCSDTI). The team comprises Chen Lingyi from the Hotel Management program and Deng Yaxin, Long Xingru, and Li Xianwen from the Tourism Management program. They were recognized for their outstanding travel design and implementation capabilities.

SCBC Holds High-Level Forum on Neutral Semiotics
On November 29-30, 2025, the inaugural “High-Level Forum on Neutral Semiotics and Development Pathways of Oriental Semiotics,” hosted by SCBC and organized by the South China Semiotics Research Center and the South China Semiotics Popular Science Base, was grandly convened in the International Academic Conference Hall of SCBC. With academic support from the Semiotics Committee of the Chinese Logic Society and the Chinese Language and Semiotics Research Association, the forum gathered over 100 renowned domestic experts, scholars, and researchers in semiotics. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the theoretical pathways of “Neutral Semiotics,” aiming to transcend disciplinary boundaries between linguistic and non-linguistic symbols. The event sought to advance the innovation of semiotics theories with Eastern characteristics and promote their global dissemination.
The forum received high-level attention, with Chairman Ding Xiaojun, President Professor Wang Hua, and Vice President Professor Wang Guanyi in attendance. The opening ceremony was chaired by Vice President Wang Guanyi, with President Wang Hua delivering the opening address. On behalf of SCBC, President Wang Hua expressed profound respect and a warm welcome to the participating experts, offering an insightful elaboration on the significance of the forum's theme—neutral semiotics research. He noted that the concept of “Neutral Semiotics,” proposed by experts Wang Mingyu and Meng Hua from the university's South China Semiotics Research Center, represents a “refreshing current” within Chinese semiotics. Since its introduction, it has garnered significant academic attention and offered an Eastern semiotics pathway for global semiotics development. This symposium serves as a bridge to establish collaborative relationships with experts and scholars, collectively contributing to the flourishing development of Chinese semiotics.
Also delivering opening remarks were Professor Fu Xiuyan, Director of the Academic Committee at the South China Semiotic Research Center, former President and Party Secretary of Jiangxi Normal University, President of the Jiangxi Academy of Social Sciences, Doctoral Supervisor at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and Chief Expert at the Yunshan Studio; and Professor Wang Jun, Deputy Directorand Secretary-General of the Committee of Semiotics of the Association for Logic in China and Doctoral Supervisor at Soochow University.
The forum featured two main sessions and three parallel sessions, hosting a total of 54 academic presentations.
SCBC Students Win Prizes at NLAPIC
From November 28 to 30, the finals of the Second National New Liberal Arts Practice and Innovation Competition (NLAPIC) for College Students, hosted by the National Research Center for New Liberal Arts Education and organized by Xi'an Jiaotong University and Shandong University, concluded successfully at Xi'an Jiaotong University in Shaanxi. All four projects submitted by SCBC were honored, securing one national silver award, two bronze awards, and one excellence award. This achievement fully demonstrates the solid outcomes of SCBC's new liberal arts talent cultivation.
