My name is Borja Vargas, I was born in Alicante (Spain) and I’m a teacher at South China Business College.
I hold a BA in Humanities (University of Alicante), where I got to study a wide array of subjects, mostly related to Spanish, English and Linguistics, Greek and Latin Language and Culture, Literature, History and Philosophy. After graduating, I moved to Madrid, where I got a Master’s Degree in Advanced Studies in Philosophy at the Complutense University. It could be noted that my Master’s thesis discussed the ethics of Mencius.
Regarding my knowledge of languages, my native language is Spanish, though I’m also almost bilingual in Catalan. I’m proficient in English, as my diplomas can prove: CAE (Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I can also speak Mandarin Chinese, my current level being somewhere around intermediate. My Mandarin abilities are still quite limited, but it’s very helpful in my classes, especially at the elementary levels.
As for my work experience, before moving to Guangzhou in 2014 I was a part-time Spanish teacher at language schools in Spain. At the same time, I worked in a History museum, at the exhibition and workshop departments. Besides, I also wrote articles and essays, mostly about contemporary culture, for some Spanish magazines and newspapers, eventually becoming a staff writer at the main online film magazine in Spanish. Currently I’m concentrated on writing fiction, and my first collection of short stories is expected to be published during 2016. Once in China, and before being a full-time teacher at SCBC, I taught both Spanish and English, while acting as an English translator and proofreader.
At South China Business College I teach to both major and minor students of Spanish language, on beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Some of the courses I design and carry out are Spanish Listening, Spanish Conversation, Spanish Writing and Spanish for Tourism. My approach to education is pragmatic, focused on the real use of the language and incorporating task-based language teaching techniques. I also pay great attention to creating a comfortable and relaxed environment in the classroom, so as to increase the motivation of the students.

我有阿里坎特大学人文学科的文学士学位证书，大学时，我修过很多科目，其中大部分跟西语，英语和语言学，希腊语和拉丁语，文化，文学，历史和哲学有关。大学毕业后，我到了马德里，并拿到康普顿斯大学高级哲学硕士学位。在硕士毕业论文里，我讨论过孟子的伦理观。
关于我的语言知识：母语为西班牙语，同时通晓加泰罗尼亚语。精通英语，有证书可证：CAE（剑桥高级英语）证书、TESOL（对外英语教学）证书。会说普通话，当前水平约为中级。中文水平局限性还是相当大，但中文在课堂上非常有用，特别是处于初级阶段的班级。
我的工作经验：2014年到广州前，在西班牙一所语言类学校当兼职西语老师。我也在历史博物馆，展览会和讲习班工作过。另外，我也给西语杂志和报纸写文章，写的多数关于当代文化，最后成了主流在线西语电影杂志的撰稿员。目前，我专注于写小说，我的第一部短篇小说集有望在2016年出版。在中国时，成为南国商学院全职教师前，我教西语和英语，同时也是英语翻译员和校对员。
在南国商学院，我教西语专业学生和西语二外。我设计和教授的课程涉及西语听力，西语会话，西语写作和旅游西语。我的教学方法讲究务实，注重语言的实际应用，并以学习任务辅佐教学。为了能激发学生们的学习热情，我在努力营造舒适轻松的课堂环境。
